Belltree’s geoscience team has been supporting clients across the Caribbean with subsurface analysis and data-driven insights to better understand their assets and inform strategic decisions.
Behind this work are the geoscientists applying technical expertise and collaborative thinking to complex challenges. As part of our International Women’s Day recognition, we spoke with Magda about her first year at Belltree, her experience contributing to these projects, and the importance of women shaping the future of the energy industry.
Can you tell us about your background and what first drew you to geoscience?
I joined Belltree in April 2025 as Senior Geophysicist. As Senior Geophysicist, I integrate multidisciplinary datasets, interpret seismic data, and support reservoir characterization and development strategies for clients.
With a strong background in geophysics and a passion for solving complex geological challenges, I saw an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to Belltree’s new Geoscience department.
What I enjoy most is working closely with a talented team to help our clients make confident, informed decisions. The collaborative spirit and continuous learning culture at Belltree make it an inspiring place to work.
As we mark International Women’s Day, what message would you share with women considering a career in geoscience or the energy sector?
Being a woman in the geophysics industry comes with unique challenges, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. The field has historically been male-dominated, so sometimes it takes extra effort to have your voice heard and to prove your expertise. However, I’ve seen positive changes over the years, with more women entering and leading in technical roles, which is very encouraging.
As a Senior Geophysicist, I believe diversity brings different perspectives that improve problem-solving and innovation. Being a woman in this industry has strengthened my resilience, communication skills, and leadership. It also motivates me to mentor younger women entering geoscience, helping to create a more inclusive and supportive environment.
Ultimately, it’s about contributing your knowledge and passion regardless of gender, and I’m proud to be part of a growing community of women shaping the future of geophysics.
How do you see the energy transition shaping the future of the industry?
The energy transition is one of the most critical and transformative challenges facing our industry today. As a Senior Geophysicist, I see firsthand how the shift from traditional fossil fuels toward renewable energy sources and low-carbon technologies is reshaping exploration, production, and subsurface management.
Geophysics plays a vital role in this transition by providing the detailed subsurface insights needed for carbon capture and storage (CCS), geothermal energy development, and the safe, efficient extraction of remaining hydrocarbons with minimal environmental impact.
Why is data so important in the energy sector today?
Data is the backbone of the energy sector. For a Senior Geophysicist, accurate and comprehensive data enables us to understand the subsurface in detail, which is essential for making informed decisions about exploration, development, and production. Without high-quality data, risks increase, and the efficiency and safety of projects can be compromised.
At Belltree, our bMark™ software harnesses subsurface and production data to deliver insightful solutions that address industry challenges while eliminating the risks associated with bias.
